All You Need to Know About Oil Changes

  • Oil change illustration

    Engine Preservation.

    Wallet Conservation.

Your ride’s engine depends on an oil change on a regular basis — at a not-so-sticky price. If you don’t change it regularly, the oil gets old, thick and dirty and doesn’t lubricate and protect engine parts like it should. This can lead to engine damage and failure, so don’t wait too long to get it changed. Check your owner’s manual for recommended oil change intervals. When you need an oil change, we’ll be here to provide the change you need at a price that’s squeaky clean. Awesome.

    Clean and Very Cool

    Engine Protection

Oil is your engine’s lifeblood. It’s pumped through the engine and lubricates all the vital engine parts and also keeps the engine cool. If there is old, dirty oil in your engine, it doesn’t lubricate as well or stay as cool. The result: your engine won’t perform as well as it should and jeopardizes needing repair or replacement. Don’t leave changing your oil to chance. Bring your ride to us and we’ll make the switch.

    Oil Change Experts.

    To the Rescue.

Practice makes perfect. And we’ve certainly had a lot of practice in real-life oil changes. We won’t, but we could practically change your oil with our eyes closed. And it’s hard to argue with a very glaring statistic: we perform over 43,000 oil changes a day at over 1,600 stores nationwide. That’s over 6.9 million oil changes a year. We don’t toss around the term EXPERT lightly like some of our competitors. But with this much experience and know-how we’ve got some definite street cred.

    Highly Trained.

    And Ready to Serve.

Our techs are trained to be ASE (American Service Excellence) certified in general maintenance, which includes learning the ropes about oil changes. In fact, we have nearly 2,300 techs ASE certified in general maintenance and just as many that complete our internal e-learning modules. Techs are also readied with a database of information on your ride’s manufacturer specifications, so they know the precise type of oil viscosity and quantity your vehicle needs. Calling us the experts would be the understatement of the year.

    Engine Adversity.

    Shorter Oil-Change Intervals

When there is excessive heat or cold under your hood, it can affect your engine’s oil. In a bad way. If you drive in high temperature conditions this could cause your oil to thin, resulting in sludge build up, which then compromises how well your engine parts are lubricated. In low-temp conditions the oil can get sludgy because of condensation and fuel that gets in there. Gross. Plus, driving short distances, towing heavy loads or leaving your car running idle for extended periods can also have adverse effects on you engine oil. When you drive under these conditions and want to maximize engine protection, you may need your oil changed more frequently than the manufacturer recommends. We’ll be here when you need us.

Very few signs you need a change.

Usually there are signs everywhere in life. But there are very few to tell you when you need your oil changed. There are a couple, though. The first obvious sign: when the oil light comes on. If this happens, stop in to Firestone Complete Auto Care A-S-A-P. Also, check your oil dipstick. If your oil reads low on the dipstick, it may be time for a change. The best insurance of all though is keeping up with your oil changes based on your manufacturers’ recommendations to make sure your engine is protected.

    3-months or 3,000 miles?

    Fact from Fiction.

It’s a myth that every vehicle needs to get its oil changed every three months or 3,000 miles. Although this may be true for some vehicles, many vehicles nowadays can go longer between oil changes. To make sure your timing is right, check your vehicle manufacturer’s recommendation on how often you should take it in for an oil change. Most recommendations will take into account your specific driving conditions, habits and manufacturer recommendations. Whenever you need it, we’ll be ready to change it.
