Rated 2 out of 5 by from 3 days wasted Brought my car in to have the tires balanced due to a shake in the steering wheel. Got it back and the shake switched from the front to the back. Brought it back a second time and the shake got worse so now I'm scheduling a third attempt. I've had the same problem with having to bring my car back for balance issues about six months ago. I'm giving a two star review rather than one star because the staff is very honest and have integrity, although they often seem understaffed.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Went there for years. Never again I've been wondering what would finally break me of this location and it was the poor customer service that seems to be their MO. Parts and actual servicing of my car are fine but they were constantly misunderstanding, underestimating the time, mixing my car with others (how does that happen?), having to bring it back to complete things they just didn't do, and the final straw was watching the managers have a blow-out argument in front of all of us customers. A fellow co-worker of theirs just shook his head and then started telling us all the things wrong with both of them. Dude, I just want my car taken care of, not a soap opera. Next.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Improperly installed oil filter I asked for a service check up before taking a trip to San Diego. They indicated I needed an oil change and gave the go ahead. the oil lamp went on before i left the parking lot so I asked them to check it- the said the oil filter was improperly installed and did a bit more work to it. The oil light was off when I drove a way. When I was a few miles outside of San Diego the oil indicator light went back on, when i stopped at a gas station to check the oil level and fill the gas tank I noticed the entire back end of my car was covered with oil. Fortunately there was a Firestone station a few blocks away and took it there to have them check it out. After inspecting, the manager there said that a "broken" filter was installed. He offered to change the oil and filter and pay for a car wash- the service at this location was incredible (considering they are probably different profit centers). After the last experience at the Oakland Firestone I am not sure I will return to that location. I have been a loyal Firestone customer for many years and have always been satisfied with your service and I'd like to think that this is an aberration, but something is bothering me about the quality of service at the Oakland location.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Be wary of them upselling. I went to Oakland Firestone when I was living there and got new tires, chains, and some brake work done from them in the past. For the most part they did a good job. However, the last time I had the front brakes replaced, they got my wife to sign on for some unnecessary work. I was busy on a business trip so she brought in the car for the brakes to be done. They told her that in addition to the brakes, we needed a new cabin air filter and a gasket for the valve cover. FIrst of all, I had replaced the cabin air filter a month ago and the car was barely used between then and when she brought it in. By the way, why did they check that to begin with? They were supposed to be just replacing the brakes. The second thing that irked me was the gasket to the the valve cover. I had replaced that 6 months ago and again the car had very little miles since the replacement. The tech informed my wife that he noticed leaking on the side of the valve. I had steam cleaned the car the week before so I figured he may have seen some residue that I didn't completely wipe off the side of the valve and just assumed it was a leak. This added up considerably considering the additional labor. Very disappointed they took advantage of my wife and her being naive. So in summary, either don't send your spouse who may not know what the car truly needs or just specifically tell them what you need and refuse any "suggestions" they may tell you to get done. Chances are they're just trying to upsell.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor customer service Customer service here was completely lacking. Had my tires replaced and bought a lifetime wheel alignment at the same time. Purchased the tires with my new FIRESTONE account assuming I would be able to redeem a rebate. I asked the technician to check my tread prior and give me an estimate of the remaining life. He took one look and replied "oh yeah it's time" when I knew there was still life left on the tread. Had also asked them to do a vehicle inspection while my car was in the shop. Later, they called me and told me I needed new windshield wiper blades and a new air filter. The air filter had been replaced a couple months prior but I authorized the work anyways. When I came back and picked up my vehicle, I was thankful for the work and paid with my brand new FIRESTONE account. Come to find out they didn't replace the air filter because they misunderstood our phone conversation. The technician offered to swap it out real fast, I agreed, and he responded that they didn't have the item in stock. Okay, that's understandable. I warned them while they were sorting out payment that I had not received my Firestone credit card and that my father was an existing FIRESTONE member at the same address and I had used his card prior so they could be sure to charge the new account. My father never authorized a charge to his account so imagine his surprise when he received a bill in the mail! I was disappointed to learn that they did not take care to confirm the correct account and that I was unable to redeem a $175 visa pre-paid card as a result (the receipt and the information on my account didn't match). It took several phone calls and 3 additional trips to a Firestone to get it sorted out. I was told I needed to call from a Firestone to verify my identity. When I went to this location the second time to rectify the clerical mistake (on one of my few days off), the customer service manager told me that he wished that he could help me but that he didn't have time!! No explanation given or solutions offered. Went immediately to the Firestone affiliate on 28th and they were able to sort it out with a less than five minute phone call. Not sure if it was my age (24) or the fact that I'm queer and female bodied but I felt like I was completely disregarded at this location. Would not recommend to anyone.
