Tire Technology
What’s this?
Run-Flat Technology Lets You Go Up to 50 Miles at 55 mph
Run-Flat tires continue to perform, even after sustaining damage that would sideline ordinary tires. If a Run-Flat tire gets punctured, in most situations, you can drive up to 50 miles at 55 mph before servicing. Ride and handling are diminished so slightly that most drivers never even notice the difference. That"s why Run-Flat tires require special sensors and a low-pressure warning device that mounts on your dashboard or sun visor. A flashing light indicates a loss of air.
Reinforced Sidewalls And Bead Are The Run-Flat Difference
Run-Flat tires have thicker, stiffer sidewalls for enhanced durability, even with zero air pressure. In addition, a special bead configuration and Rim Guard are utilized to help Run-Flat tires grip the rim when flat, while our Rim Guard secures the bead area to the rim to protect the tire from damage. No special wheel is required for Run-Flat tires, only special sensors are needed to monitor tire pressure.
Reach A Safe Place For Servicing
Run-Flat Technology from Firestone allows you to keep driving at limited speeds for a considerable distance after your tire goes flat, so you reach a safe and convenient place to have your tire serviced. Run-Flat tires can take you up to 50 miles at 55 mph, in most situations, where servicing by a certified retailer can take place at your convenience.
Other Tire Technology
A reinforcing material used in conjunction with carbon black.
Spiral Wrap Shoulder Strips are continuous nylon wraps used to reinforce the tire. Placed between the steel belts and the tread, it encircles the entire tire. Unlike the conventional wraps and layers, Spiral Wrap does not have a seam, so the tire is reinforced without having an added stress point which could alter tire shape and have a negative effect on tire performance.
